Each service opportunity is named, then the frequency of service  is indicated, followed by a description of the ministry. The numbers correspond to the service opportunity form which may be filled out and returned in the offering plate or to the church office.

Study

 

  1. Wednesday Night Life Teacher/FacilitatorVaries for those interested in teaching Wednesday Night Life course for adults.
  2. Bible Study Leader-Varies Adult volunteers are needed to plan, prepare, and lead these important studies. This may include Wednesday Night Life.
  3. Archives-Varies Church archivists keep history and membership records up-to-date.
  4. Adult-Sunday School TeacherVaries Sunday School teachers prepare and present weekly study sessions. Occasionally, they arrange for a substitute teacher to take the class.
  5. Adult-Sunday School Substitute As Needed
    Anyone willing to fill in on an “as needed” basis when regular Sunday School Teacher cannot be there.

Share

  1. Newsletter/Mailings-Rotation
    Special mail helpers affix labels to newsletters, insert flyers, and prepare special mailings for bulk mail.
  2. Welcome Desk-8:15-Rotation
    Greet at the information desk in the Narthex on the first floor to help visitors and members with directions and information. 8:15AM – 9:30AM Sunday morning.
  3. Welcome Desk-9:30-Rotation
    Greet at the information desk in the Narthex on the first floor to help visitors and members with directions and information. 9:30AM – 10:30AM Sunday morning.
  4. Welcome Desk-10:30-Rotation
    Greet at the information desk in the Narthex on the first floor to help visitors and members with directions and information. 10:30AM – 11:15AM Sunday morning.
  5. Exterior Door Greeter-9:15 Rotation
    Greet at various doors throughout the church to help visitors and members with directions and information. 9:15AM – 10:15AM Sunday morning.
  6. Exterior Door Greeter-10:40 Rotation
    Greet at various doors throughout the church to help visitors and members with directions and information. 10:40AM – 11:10AM Sunday morning.
  7. Holy Grounds-Rotation Help serve coffee and donuts in Holy Grounds Café on Sunday mornings from 8:15AM-10:00AM in the Narthex.
  8. Citywide Outreach Events – As Scheduled Join the SHARE team as we regularly participate in Fort Smith events like First Tuesdays Downtown as a means to better get to know our city and invite folks to church. Time/Location varies.

 

Serve

  1. Local School Partnership/School Supply Drive- as needed Help gather supplies that are brought to the church, separate supplies per grade, and help to deliver supplies to schools. Also, help with our local school partnership team by mentoring/reading at the local schools.
  2. Thanksgiving Dinner– Annually
    Jobs connected with the Thanksgiving Day Ministry include: director, greeters, food warmers, food servers, food deliverers, set-up crew, clean-up crew, and decorations.
  3. Muffins to Next Step Day Room– Rotation
    Provide 24 homemade or store bought muffins (without nuts) Monday or Tuesday morning between 8:00AM-10:00AM to the Next Step Day Room.
  4. Sack Lunch Program—Rotation
    Work in scheduled rotation basis to make sandwiches and sack lunches at the Next Step Day Room as part of the ecumenical outreach to the homeless in our community.
  5. Cookies of Care (bake/deliver) – Monthly Cookies for Firefighters, Police Officers, and EMTs. Once a      month bake and/or deliver cookies to local units. Bakers and     delivery people needed.
  6. Last Sunday Breakfast—Monthly
    This breakfast is sponsored by the Chapel Class and other church members. Help is needed to make breakfast and greet and visit with guests from the neighborhood.
  7. Guatemala Medical Mission Trip—annual
    A team of doctors, dentists, nurses and assistants spend one week providing medical and dental care in rural Guatemala.
  8. Local & Regional Mission Trip– As Scheduled  We are putting together a group of people interested in additional mission trips.
  1. Food at First– Monthly People are needed to take food orders on Sunday mornings from 8:30AM-11:00AM and help distribute food every 3rd Saturday from 8:30AM-10:00AM in the Family Life Center.
  2. Red Shield Diner—Monthly
    Members provide, prepare, and/or serve food for the Salvation Army one Sunday evening each month.
  3. Knitters, Knotters & Mats that Matter-Weekly
    Knit or crochet prayer shawls, scarves for the homeless, and crochet sleep mats out of recyclable plastic bags for adults and children. Lessons are taught 10:00AM Thursday mornings in the Narthex.
  4. Dorothy Collier Network – As Needed This ministry includes planning meals, shopping, cooking, and serving food to our church families in time of bereavement.
  5. Mini Clinic Monthly—Monthly
    Monthly medical clinics are offered to the congregation during the last Sunday breakfast to take blood pressure and do diabetes screenings and to relay information for a healthy lifestyle. Clinic volunteers as well as Hostesses are needed  8:30AM-10:00AM.
  6. Hospital Flowers—Rotation
    Deliver Sunday’s Altar flowers on Monday morning to our members in the hospital.
  7. Bus/Van Driver –Rotation
    Drive those needing transportation to Pacesetters (2 times a month), and Sunday services. Drivers do not need a special license.
  8. Decorating Committee—Varies
    This group decorates the altars for Thanksgiving. They also decorate the Sanctuary, Roebuck Chapel, Narthex and the Fireside Room at Christmas. Occasionally, this group will assist with other areas of the church.

Children

 

  1. Children-Nursery–Varies
    Nursery workers gently rock, love, feed and play with our babies and young children. Sunday – 8:30AM-9:30AM and/or 9:30AM-12:00 Noon.  Wednesday Night Life –6:30PM – 7:30.
  2. Children-Sunday School Teacher—Monthly Rotation The children’s classes have teaching teams of two people. Within the team, the responsibilities for various components of the Sunday School hour rotate from Sunday to Sunday.                       9:30AM-10:45AM.
  3. Children-Sunday School Shepherds–One Year An adult that rotates with a certain grade to different classes each Sunday. 9:30AM-10:45AM.
  4. Children-Wednesday Night Life Groups Wednesday Night  Co-lead – 6:30PM-7:30PM.
  5. Children-Vacation Bible School Helper – 1 week in June Rotate with children to different stations, coordinate and serve snacks for the children.
  6. Children-Holyland Market Place –Seasonal
    Plan and implement an evening for young children and family centered around the Lenten Season.
  7. Children-DHS Angel Tree Helper—Seasonal
    Help organize, prepare and supervise the Angel Tree Mission project at Christmas.

 

Youth

 

  1. Youth Sunday School –Rotation
    In conjunction with the Youth Director and Youth leaders, teachers plan and lead Sunday School classes. 9:45AM-10:45AM.
  2. Youth-Wednesday Night Life Groups—Wednesday Night In conjunction with the Youth Director Co-lead – 6:3OPM-7:30PM.
  3. Youth-Sunday Night FIRST YOUTH– Each Sunday Night Adult leadership – primarily mentor and be a presence in the life of our youth. 5:00PM.-7:00PM.
  4. Youth-Sunday Night Meal Rotation—Rotation
    Parents willing to donate/cook a meal on a rotating basis. Meal will be Sundays from – 5:00PM- 5:30PM.
  5. Chaperone Youth-Special Events—Varies
    Be an adult helper with special youth events.

Classic Worship

 

  1. Chancel Choir – Weekly
    The choir leads music for the congregation during the 11:00AM Sanctuary worship service each Sunday.   The choir also presents special programs and worship services during the year. Choir practice is Wednesday night at 7:00PM.
  2. Solo Singers/Instrumentalists – Occasionally
    Provide vocal or instrumental solo occasionally for the 8:30AM worship service in Roebuck Chapel or 11:00AM worship in the Sanctuary.
  3. Ladybells-Weekly Practice (Off during the summer)
    Ladybells (Handbells) serve as worship leaders approximately once a month. A love of music, fellowship, and worship is all that is needed. Music reading ability is helpful, but not required. Ladybells practice on Wednesday mornings at 10:00AM.
  4. Children’s Choir Helper- Weekly and/or as needed Many different people are needed to serve in the children’s music department. These include (Wednesday) choir leaders, pianists, recreation helper (weekly- Choir I – 4:00PM-5:00PM and Choir II – 4:00PM-5:30PM), Sunday morning assistants, and  special events assistant (as needed).
  5. Children’s Choir Van Driver – Rotation
    Serve as a driver for the church van to pick up from schools for Children’s Choir on Wednesday afternoons (2:15PM-3:15PM).
  6. Children’s Music Camp Helper – Annually in Summer Helpers with music camp do many different things including serving lunch, telling stories, watching the playground, costuming, teaching songs and dances, drawing backdrops, painting, and applying make-up.  Music Camp is one week (Monday thru Friday) in the summer.
  7. Altar Guild-Rotation
    Working in pairs, Altar Guild members prepare the chancels in Roebuck Chapel and the main sanctuary for worship each week. Some of the duties include cleaning and dusting, changing paraments, replacing candles as needed, also directing weddings, etc.
  8. Communion Prep-Rotation
    Prepare communion elements for Holy Communion services each month, each Wednesday, and at special times during the Christian year.
  9. Communion Server- 8:30AM Roebuck – Rotation
    Help serve Holy Communion during the first Sunday of each month.
  10. Communion Server- 11:00AM Sanctuary-Rotation
    Help serve Holy Communion during the first Sunday of each month.
  11. Lay Reader—Rotation
    Lay readers read one or more scripture lessons during the worship service, either in Roebuck Chapel at 8:30AM or in the Sanctuary at 11:00AM.
  12. Usher-8:30AM Roebuck—Varies
    Help visitors find a spot where they are comfortable and assist in the collection of the offering. 8:10AM-8:40AM.
  13. Usher-11:00AM Sanctuary—Varies
    Help visitors find a spot where they are comfortable and assist in the collection of the offering. 10:30AM-11:10AM.
  14. Door Greeter-11:00AM Sanctuary—Rotation Greet people as they arrive at church, learning names and faces. 10:30AM-11:10AM.

 

Connexion Worship

 

  1. Connexion Praise Team—Weekly Serve on praise team for the 11:00AM Contemporary Worship Service in an instrumental or vocal position or as a substitute.
  2. Connexion Audio/Video Team—Varies Each week, volunteers prepare visuals resources and help run sound during the Connexion Service. We have regular volunteers, but are in need of more backups and wider input. Training  provided.
  3. Usher- 11:00AM Connexion—Rotation
    Help visitors find a spot where they are comfortable and assist in the collection of the offering. 10:30AM-11:10AM.
  4. Greeter- 11:00AM Connexion—Rotation
    Greet people as they arrive at church, learning names and faces. 10:30AM-11:10AM.
  5. Connexion – Children– Rotation
    An adult will help the children (usually 2 or 3) gather and distribute attendance pads.
  6. Communion Server- 11:00AM Connexion—Rotation
    Help serve Holy Communion during the first Sunday of each month.
